Diversity and Equality
The primary aim of Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School is to enable all pupils to take part as fully as possible in every part of school life by developing each child’s self-confidence, recognising their strengths and encouraging them to achieve their full potential.
At Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School, we strive to advance equality of opportunity, foster good relations and eliminate discrimination or harassment within our school community across all Nine Protected Characteristics as defined in the Equality Act 2010. We believe in inclusive practice for all of our community. We ensure that our curriculum design and lesson content promotes and values all learners, all adults and all families. We are proud of our diverse school, we celebrate the different faiths, backgrounds and the identities of everyone and actively promote inclusion for all. We teach anti-racism through our partnership with the Ethnic Diversity Schools Linking Programme and our work with Show Racism the Red Card. Relationships and Sex Education is delivered through weekly PSHE lessons. As part of this, children are taught about healthy relationships and that the make-up of families can be diverse.
We strongly support the Nine Protected Characteristics defined in the Equality Act 2010 in all aspects of school life, from our recruitment of staff, the design of our curriculum, our school values and how we support our vulnerable families. The Equality Objectives capture our work in school to promote equality.
