The Relics of The Blessed Carlo Acutis, by Mr Kilkenny

The Mini Vinnies gathered at St Antony's Church in Wythenshawe yesterday to venerate the relics of Blessed Carlo Acutis. Thank you to Shrewsbury Diocese for organising a truly spiritual and reflective event.

The whole school carried out a lovely Peace One Day Liturgy this morning. The children read and sang beautifully. Well done every one and remember what Jeremy Gilley said: When you build a house, you start with one brick. If we want to build peace, we should start with one day.

Big thanks to CAFOD and Charles Flannery for a wonderful assesmbly this morning, Charles spoke about his work with CAFOD and how we can raise money to help projects all over the world. Charles also went into classes where he spoke about Catholic Social Teaching which the children thoroughly enjoyed.

Thanks to Bikeability who recently came into school to teach Y5 and Y6 how to ride safely on the local roads of our school. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and it has given them a great deal of confidence.

Thanks to Edgeley Library who hosted out Year 1 class on Friday. They put on a great session and the children thoroughly enjoyed it. You can borrow up to 10 books for free and it's a great way to spend a few hours with your children. Please use your local library. #stockport

Ross MacKenzie, the multi- award-winning author of The Nowhere Emporium, Shadowsmith and The Colour of Hope spoke to Year 5 yesterday. Ross gave an early account of his life as a 'reader' and read an extract from his latest book, The Colour of Hope. Thanks Ross for such a special afternoon.

Year 2 had an author visit today from Rachel Morrisroe who wrote The Drama Llama. Rachel is part of Stockport's Children's Book Award and Year 2 have read her book in class. The children asked some really great questions and throughly enjoyed her reading the book to them on her visit.

Well done to Year 2 who produced a wonderful Class Assembly today on PSHE. Not only did they create a memorable assembly but they also acted and presented their work extremely well. Congratulations to you all. Big thanks too for all the families that came along.

The children really showed off their creative skills this year for World Book Day 2023. Their book characters, made from potatoes, were truly amazing and obviously a lot of thought and hard work has gone into them. Take a look at their amazing creations.
Children also carried out their speeches to become their class Reading Ambassador. The results are in and will be announced on Monday morning in assembly. Well done everyone and thank you to all the school community for your support.

Year 4 went on a local History tour of Stockport today. They started on our school playground which was the site for the Stockport Riot in 1852. Yes, our school playground! They then walked to Stockport's infamous Workhouse, visited Stockport's Victorian market and visited lots of Blue Plaques on their way too. Now that's History on your door step!

Huge thank you to the families of Stockport Normandy Veterans who came into school to talk about Remembrance Sunday and share their experiences of World War II. Our school is very proud to continue and develop our links to the Veterans and we would like to thank Linda, Raymond and staff for organising such a special event.

Thanks to all the staff from Bikeability for all their hard work this week.
The children in Key Stage 2 have gained more confidence in cycling safely on the local streets and some children have learnt to ride a bike for the first time.

Thanks ot the Minnie Vinnies and their Easter Egge raffle, the school raised £218 for Stockport's Normandy Veterans.
Shiela Burns, Janet Wood and Ray Withnall, who represent Veterans, came into school to recieve the cheque for £218. They told us the money will be used to help the Veterans create a bespoke Stockport book on the lives of the men and women who played a role in World War II. The school would like to say a special thanks to the Sheila, Janet and Ray for relaying the facinating stories of their lives living through World War II and answering so many of the children's great questions.
