Our Lady’s Mini Vinnies has been established at Our Lady’s Catholic Primary since 2016. It enables a group of Year 6 children to work on making lives better for the school, the parish and the world community. Mini Vinnies has been developed from the Society of St Vincent de Paul but is aimed at enabling younger people to, “turn concern into action.” The actions of the Mini Vinnies groups have three components; See, Think and Do! The children work together to ‘See’ where there is a need, ‘Think’ about ways to help and ‘Do’ something about it.
The Mini Vinnies began their fundraising efforts with a project for Mary’s Meals. They looked into the work behind the Mary’s Meals Backpack Appeal. The children sent out a campaign to the whole school asking to donate backpacks, stationery, sandals and toiletries so that children in parts of Africa could be well equipped to go to school. The campaign was a resounding success with 38 backpacks plus lots of extra equipment being donated.
Our children have organised a number of very successful projects since then. These include:
– Making and selling Bee badges and fridge magnets in support of the One Love Manchester campaign.
– An Easter Egg raffle to raise money for the Normandy Veterans.
– A cake sale, the proceeds of which went to CAFOD
– Operation Christmas Child shoe box appeal at Advent to support children less fortunate than themselves.
Thank you for continuing to support such a worthy group.
