Our Lady’s Mini Vinnies has been established at Our Lady’s Catholic Primary since 2016. It enables a group of Year 6 children to work on making lives better for the school, the parish and the world community. Mini Vinnies has been developed from the Society of St Vincent de Paul but is aimed at enabling younger people to, “turn concern into action.” The actions of the Mini Vinnies groups have three components; See, Think and Do! The children work together to ‘See’ where there is a need, ‘Think’ about ways to help and ‘Do’ something about it.
Last year, our children ran two successful projects. One was for our local Normandy Veterans. The children worked tirelessly on a raffle to raise funds to enable members of the Veteran Society to visit Normandy.
The other project was a world need. We looked into the work behind the Mary’s Meals Backpack Appeal. The children sent out a campaign to the whole school asking to donate backpacks, stationery, sandals and toiletries so that children in parts of Africa could be well equipped to go to school. The campaign was a resounding success with 38 backpacks plus lots of extra equipment being donated.
Thank you for continuing to support such a worthy group.
